Fatima

[Opens Aug. 28 on VOD platforms.] Gorgeous cinematography and scenery dominate this poignant, powerful, factually inspired, star-studded (Joaquin de Almeida, Goran Visnjic, and João Arrais), 113-minute film that recounts through the pen of a professor/writer (Harvey Keitel) after interviewing a nun (Sônia Braga) in1989 her experiences as a devout 10-year-old, Portuguese shepherd (Stephanie Gil), who lived with her strict and initially skeptical parents (Lúcia Moniz and Marco d'Almeida) in Fátima, Portugal, and her two younger cousins (Alejandra Howard and Jorge Lamelas) who claimed to have seen apparitions of the Virgin Mary (Joana Ribeiro) on June 13, 1917, and consequently they suffered a range of unexpected repercussions among the believers and nonbelievers and when they refused to recant their visions, the Catholic Church and government officials became extremely irate as thousands of people migrated to the site in hopes of witnessing a miracle, which many pilgrims ultimately believe they did on Oct. 13, 1917, after the "Miracle of the Sun" occurred.
