[Opens Aug. 27 exclusively on First Look Media's Topic streaming service via topic.com, and Topic's channels on Amazon Prime Video channels, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku; Topic is required for viewing and for more information, log on to topic.com.] Stunning cinematography, striking landscapes, and majestic icebergs and mountains dominate this engaging, educational, well-paced, fascinating, 2019 television docuseries in which Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (one of the stars in Game of Thrones) travels around Greenland, which 81% is ice covered and fishing (such as narwhal, halibut, redfish, and trout) is its major source of income, and consists of five, 45-minute episodes: 1) In episode 1, Nikolaj arrives at Thule Air Base in Dundas near the Arctic Circle, where his father worked in the 1980s, and is escorted around by the base commander and meets other officers and enlisted personnel; 2) in episode 2, he joins brothers-in-law Kim and Peter Jensen in Qaanaaq on a muskox hunt and then heads with guide Karsten Aagaard to the desolate ice shelf in Kangerlussauq, which is 660 meters above sea level, but has lost a tremendous amount of ice due to climate change; 3) in episode 3, Greenland-born actress/singer Nukâka joins husband Nikolaj in her hometown of Uumannaaq in Western Greenland to visit an orphanage for neglected children and in-laws in the Nuuk capital (population 17,000), and later Nikolaj watches an artist ink a traditional Inuit tattoo and orders a stone-made seal head statue for his wife's upcoming birthday; 4) in episode 4, the couple visit different small towns, including Tasiilaq, in Eastern Greenland in which many dialects are spoken due to isolation, Nikolaj goes to an athletic center where he learns how the Inuit prepare for their Olympic-type competition that emphasizes acts of skill such as strength and agility needed in hunting and fishing, he then visits a derelict WWII U.S. base filled with unsightly and rusting vehicles and thousands of 55-gallon fuel barrels, and overcomes his claustrophobia, fear, and apprehension to enter an ice cave beneath a glacier; and 5) in episode 5, Nikolaj visits a pioneering farmer in Southern Greenland who is raising animals (such as sheep, cattle, and horses) now that climate change supports grazing, walks in a market where he learns that some people are trying to grow produce so that they do not have to depend on imports from cargo ships arriving at their port, tours a goldmine where he learns how the precious metal is separated from rock, ends up meeting with United Nations Development Programme (U.N.D.P.) climate expert Jo Scheuer who explains areas in which Greenland may take advantage of changes in climate due to global warming, and finally Nikolaj goes for a respite at his quaint cottage after his extensive travels.
