Papillon

When charismatic French safecracker Henri "Papillon" Charrière (Charlie Hunnam) is framed for murder in Paris in 1931 and is sent in 1933 to the horrific, filthy penal colony run by a ruthless warden (Yorick van Wageningen) in French Guiana in this gritty, factually based, powerful, captivating, well-acted, gut-wrenching, intense, 133-minute, 2017 remake of the 1973 film based on the international bestselling autobiographies Papillon (aka butterfly) and Banco, he is determined from the start to escape and goes through horrendous ordeals while befriending and protecting milquetoast inmate Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who was convicted of counterfeiting and forgery, in exchange for financing his escape with two other prisoners (Roland Miller and Michael Socha).
