Leave No Trace

After a PTSD-afflicted vet (Ben Foster) is discovered living in the Portland woods on public land with his teenage daughter (Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie) in this engaging, touching, realistic, well-acted, 109-minute film based on Peter Rock's novel My Abandonment, a kindhearted social worker (Dana Millican) tries to help them live more conventional lives working on a Christmas tree farm in exchange for a roof over their heads but the father gets restless and they head out to Washington state where they are befriended by caring people living off the grid.
