Slow-pacing detracts from Samuel Maoz's unusual, intense, well-acted, somber, uneven, thought-provoking, 108-minute film that shows the roller coaster of grief that an Israeli couple (Lior Ashkenazi and Sarah Adler) and their daughter (Shira Haas) in Tel Aviv go through when regimented military officers tell them their son (Yonaton Shiray) has been killed at a remote border outpost in act 1, act 2 then shows the corporal working with three other soldiers at the rundown checkpoint in the desert, and unpredictable act 3 delves into the tragic conclusion six months later.
