Roman J. Israel, Esq.

Superb acting and dialogue dominate this engaging, powerful, well-written, dramatic, 129-minute film about a brilliant, idealistic, socially-inept, Los Angeles attorney (Denzel Washington) with a photographic memory who devoted his life's work to shedding light on issues of social injustice, civil rights abuses, and injustices with the legal system, and he ends up in a downward spiral and is caught in a dangerous trap of his own making after he loses his job, volunteers to work with a civil rights activist (Carmen Ejogo), and eventually accepts a job from a lawyer (Colin Farrell) he at first considered to be unethical.
