Battle of the Sexes

Superb casting highlights this entertaining, factually based, well-acted, humorous, star-studded (Bill Pullman, Chris Parnell, Alan Cumming, Sarah Silverman, Fred Armisen, Jessica McNamee, and Wallace Langham), 121-minute film adapted from Simon Beaufoy's book that showcases the over-top televised showdown between arrogant, gambling-addicted, chauvinistic, legendary, 55-year-old tennis star Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell), who has a wife (Elizabeth Shue) and two sons (Lewis Pullman and Cooper J. Friedman), after stubborn, talented 29-year-old world tennis champion Billie Jean King (Emma Stone), who was struggling with her attraction to a beautiful hairdresser (Andrea Riseborough) and trying not to hurt her remarkably understanding, supportive handsome husband (Austin Stowell) in the process, accepted his invitation to compete on Sept. 20, 1973.
