Absolutely phenomenal acting dominates this touching, factually based, captivating, heartwarming, heartbreaking, inspirational, 115-minute, 2016 film in which clever, artistic, tenacious, witty, arthritis-afflicted Maud Dowley (Sally Hawkins) gets out from under the thumbs of her mean-spirited aunt (Gabrielle Rose) and greedy, bullying brother (Zachary Bennett) in 1930s Nova Scotia by becoming an unlikely housemaid for curmudgeonly, verbally abusive fisherman Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) who scrounges up odd jobs to make extra money, and she becomes famous for her colorful nature paintings with the help of a kindhearted New York patron (Kari Matchett) who befriends her, and over time, their unusual relationship develops into a strong bond that changes both their lives and their outlook on the world.
