Meddler, The

A poignant, realistic, well-acted, star-dotted (Jason Ritter, Lucy Punch, Michael McKean, Harry Hamlin, and Shiri Appleby), 100-minute film in which a smothering widow (Susan Sarandon) moves from New York City to Los Angeles to be physically and emotionally closer to her screenwriter daughter (Rose Byrne), and when her daughter wants her to be less clingy, she finds herself befriending an iPhone technician (Jerrod Carmichael), paying for the vow renewal of a lesbian friend (Cecily Strong) and her wife, and falling for a kindhearted, retired cop (J.K. Simmons) with backyard chickens.
