Divergent Series, The: Allegiance - Part 1 A convoluted, disappointing, fast-paced, love-it-or-hate-it, star-dotted (Naomi Watts, Octavia Lenora Spencer, Maggie Q, Xander Berkeley, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, Jonny Weston, and Bill Skarsgård), 121-minute thriller highlighted by mediocre acting and weak special effects in which five tenacious, doggedly determined citizens (Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and Zoë Kravitz) escape from war-ravaged Chicago over the forbidden wall and find themselves in a futuristic, 5-acre city ruled by a duplicitous, iron-fisted director (Jeff Daniels) where they learn shocking and unsettling news that their lives are monitored and based on an experiment after scientists tampered with the human genome.
