Big Short, The An eye-opening, ire-producing, complicated, factually based, well-acted, humor-punctuated, star-studded (Marisa Tomei, Melissa Leo, Jeremy Strong, Rafe Spall, Selena Gomez, Margot Robbie, Tracy Letts, Karen Gillan, and Stanley Wong), 130-minute satire based on Michael Lewis's bestselling 2010 novel The Big Short: Inside The Doomsday Machine in which eccentric financial analyst Dr. Michael Burry (Christian Bale) discovered the crooked, greedy financial shenanigans of companies such as Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Bear Sterns, and Countrywide that contributed to the housing and credit collapse in 2008 and led to millions of people losing their jobs, pensions, savings, and 401Ks, and Wall Street traders Jarred Bennett (Ryan Gosling) and Mark Baum (Steve Carell) and other "rolling-the dice" players (Brad Pitt, Finn Wittrock, and Hamish Linklater) took out "insurance policies" to protect themselves against the inevitable economic catastrophe as they jumped on the band wagon to make millions.
