Danish Girl, The Oscar-caliber performances dominate this poignant, heartbreaking, compelling, factually based, empathetic, star-dotted (Amber Heard and Ben Whishaw), 2-hour film highlighted by gorgeous cinematography, costumes, sets, and scenery and based on David Ebershoff's novel and Lili Elbe's 1933 memoir Man Into Woman about Danish painter Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) in 1926 Copenhagen who realizes that he is transgendered and with the help of his devoted landscape artist wife Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) of six years, his childhood art dealer friend (Matthias Schoenaerts), and a German surgeon (Henry Pettigrew) he tries to realize his dream of becoming a woman.
