By the Sea

Gorgeous scenery highlights this slow-moving, realistic, 132-minute film in which a heavy-drinking New York City writer (Brad Pitt) discusses his dysfunctional relationship with his depressed, former dancer wife (Angelina Jolie Pitt) to whom he has been married for fourteen years with a widowed French hotel owner/bartender (Niels Arestrup), and then their tumultuous relationship takes a turn when they meet a newly married Paris art gallery owner (Melvil Poupaud) and his beautiful wife (Mélanie Laurent) while vacationing in France at a stunning seaside hotel in the 1970s.
