When thirty-three gold/copper miners (Antonio Banderas, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jacob Vargas, Mario Casas, et al.) are trapped 2,300 feet below ground in the San Jose mine in the Atacama Desert in Chile in 2010 for sixty-nine days in this gut-wrenching, inspirational, factually based, emotional, star-studded (Josh Brolin, Juliette Binoche, Cote de Pablo, Bob Gunton, and Naomi Scott), 2-hour film based on Hector Tobar's novel Deep Down Dark, the Minister of Mines (Rodrigo Santoto) and a mining engineer (Gabriel Byrne) lead an iffy and arduous drilling expedition working with the United States, Australia, and Canada to save them as the world watches.
