Freeheld After a tenacious, initially closeted veteran New Jersey detective (Julianne Moore) and her younger, mechanic domestic partner (Ellen Page) move in together in 2003 and then is suddenly diagnosed with lung cancer in this poignant, inspirational, factually based, star-studded (Steve Carell, Michael Shannon, Luke Grimes, Dennis Boutsikaris, and Tom McGowan), 103-minute film, she confronts the mostly conservative members of the Board of Chosen Freeholders (Josh Charles, et al.) in Ocean County, N.J., to persuade them to approve that her pension will go to her partner upon her inevitable death.
