Operation Popcorn

An educational, eye-opening, 81-minute, 2014, political documentary that uses archival photographs, film footage, snippets from the documentary Inside the Jungle of Laos, and interviews with University of Minnesota history professor Mae Na Lee, Hmong Today editor Wameng Moua, General Pao's son Cha Vang, former colonel of the Hmong Secret Army Youa True Vang, journalist Steve Magagnini, attorneys Steve Young and Mark Reichel, clan leader and secret war veteran Lo Thao, and businessman Lhia Kao Vang to chronicle the story of how the CIA recruited the Hmong people in the hills of Laos to fight the Communists alongside the Americans during the Vietnam War and then brought them to America as refugees in 1979, and documents the clandestine meetings between a CIA operative and Hmong human rights activist Locha Thao to procure weapons to overthrow the Laotian government in an operation known as "Political Opposition Party's Coup Operation to Rescue the Nation."
