Tale of Princess Kaguya, The

After a humble bamboo cutter (voiceover by James Caan) finds an infant in an eliminated bamboo tree and raises the girl to be a princess along with his devoted wife (voiceover by Mary Steenbergen) in this Oscar-nominated, artistically creative, gorgeously hand-painted, star-studded (voiceovers by Beau Bridges, James Marsden, Oliver Platt, George Segal, John Cho, Daniel Dae Kim, and Hynden Walch), 137-minute, 2013, animated Japanese film based on a 10th-century Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, the free-spirited, headstrong girl (voiceover by Chloƫ Grace Moretz) reluctantly moves to the capitol where she trained to be a princess by a lady (voiceover by Lucy Liu) and is then pursued by five nobleman and the king (voiceover by Dean Cain), but her dream of being with the boy (voiceover by Darren Criss) from her childhood is shattered when the moon people eventually come for her.
