Whiplash

Two Oscar-caliber performances highlight this Oscar-nominated, brilliant, intense, well-written, psychological, 106-minute film in which a talented, perfectionist, 19-year-old, first-year student (Miles Teller), who is close to his supportive father (Paul Reiser), desperately seeks the approval of a cruel, highly critical, vulgar, abusive, uncompromising music professor (J.K. Simmons) as he competes with other drummers (Nate Lang and Austin Stowell) to be part of a jazz ensemble at a Manhattan music conservatory.
