God's Pocket

After a worker (Caleb Landry Jones) is accidentally killed at a construction site in Philadelphia in this gritty, dark, 88-minute film, which is based on Pete Dexter's novel, his distraught mother (Christina Hendricks) talks to a cop and an alcoholic journalist (Richard Jenkins) in an attempt to discover whether her son was really murdered while her gambling husband (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who works for a shady meat distributor (John Turturro), runs around the blue-collar neighborhood betting the donations for the funeral on horses and gets into trouble with the undertaker (Eddie Marsan) when he can't pay his bill.
