Saving Mr. Banks

While gruff, cantankerous, controlling, stubborn English novelist P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) causes problems left and right for the amenable Walt Disney (Tom Hanks), his dedicated staff (Jason Schwartzman, Bradley Whitford, B.J. Novak, Melanie Paxson, and Kathy Baker), and a chauffeur (Paul Giamatti) during meetings in 1961 to film her beloved book Mary Poppins and initially refuses to sign the studio contract in this entertaining, factually based, 2-hour film, she reminisces about her childhood growing up with her alcoholic father (Colin Farrell), her frustrated mother (Ruth Wilson), two younger sisters, and a nanny/housekeeper (Rachel Griffiths).
