Safe Haven

A surprise ending highlights this compelling, well-acted, gut-wrenching, 2-hour, romantic chick flick, which is based on Nicholas Sparks popular novel and directed by Lasse Hallström, in which an abused housewife (Julianne Hough) narrowly escapes her alcoholic, jealous, vindictive detective husband (David Lyons) in Boston and takes a job as a waitress in a small seaside community in North Carolina where she is befriended by a dark-haired neighbor (Cobie Smulders) and a handsome widowed shopkeeper (Josh Duhamel) with two grieving children (Noah Lomax and Mimi Kirkland).
