Chasing Mavericks Great surfing shots highlight this inspirational, family friendly, heart-tugging, entertaining, factually based film in which Santa Cruz roofer and construction worker Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler), who has an understanding wife (Abigail Spencer) and two children, reluctantly agrees to put his impassioned teenage neighbor Jay Moriarty (Jonny Weston), who cares for his single mother (Elizabeth Shue), through arduous training to survive and surf gigantic waves called mavericks off the California coast in 1994.
