When a smart, guilt-ridden student (Anna Paquin) at a private prep school, who lives with her divorced, actor mother (J. Smith-Cameron) and younger brother (Cyrus Hernstadt) in New York City, lies to a detective (Stephen Adley Guirgis) after witnessing a distracted bus driver (Mark Ruffalo), who has a wife (Rosemarie DeWittt) and children, run a red light that results in the accidental death of a pedestrian (Allison Janney) in this realistic, unusual, well-acted, star-studded (Matt Damon, Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Kieran Culkin, Olivia Thirlby, and Michael Ealy), 150-minute, 2011 film, her life begins to implode as she desperately tries to make amends and change her testimony.
