When a highly successful, 60-year-old, wheeler-dealer, ruthless, morally-bankrupt billionaire (Richard Gere) in New York City is involved in a fatal car accident with his artistic, art-dealing French lover (Laetetia Casta) in this slow-paced, twisting, seemingly realistic film, which is reminiscent of "Margin Call and Wall Street, he tries to cover it up with the help of the indebted son (Nate Parker) of his former African-American chauffeur to avoid a scandal that would derail the sale of his financially troubled hedge fund company but his inquisitive chief investment officer daughter (Brit Marling) and a tenacious detective (Tim Roth) threaten to expose his lies and carefully constructed persona as a financial oracle and a worthwhile husband to his philanthropic wife (Susan Sarandon).
