My Afternoons with Margueritte

A heartwarming, touching, 82-minute, 2010 film based on Marie-Sabine Roger's novel in which an overall-clad, overweight, dimwitted, illiterate French handyman and produce vendor (Gérard Depardieu), who is dating the pretty village bus driver (Sophie Guillemin), unexpectedly becomes friends with a smart, well-read, 95-year-old woman (Gisèle Casadesus) he meets at a park full of pigeons he has named while reminiscing about his traumatic, unhappy childhood being raised by his mean-spirited, berating mother (Claire Maurier).
