After the accidental drowning of a neighborhood boy (Thomas McTaggart) in Glasgow in the summer of 1973 during a garbage strike in this somber, thought-provoking, coming-of-age, 1999 film, a young, disturbed Scottish boy (William Eadie), who lives with his parents (Tommy Flanagan and Mandy Matthews) and two sisters, experiences extreme poverty, bullying, and comfort with a local school girl (Leanne Mullen) while rising above his impoverished circumstances.
