Hunter, The

When a biotechnology company sends a hunter (Willem Dafoe) to Tasmania to search for an elusive Tasmanian tiger that allegedly produces a highly valuable paralytic biotoxin in its blood in this unusual, engaging, unpredictable film, which is based on Julia Leigh's story The Hunter," he angers the suspicious townsfolk (Sam Neill, Callan Mulvey, Sullivan Stapleton, et al.) as he searches for the animal and befriends a grieving widow (Frances O'Connor) and her two children (Finn Woodlock and Morgana Davies) from whom he rented a room.
