Fireflies in the Garden Slow pacing mars this somber, dark, 2008 film, which is adapted from Dennis Lee's semi-autobiography, about a successful writer (Ryan Reynolds) who is married to an alcoholic (Carrie-Anne Moss Addison) and reminisces about growing up as a scared, traumatized, abused child (Cayden Boyd) in Illinois and with his dysfunctional family (Emily Watson/Hayden Panettiere, Brooklynn Poulx, and Shannon Lucio) after his abusive, hotheaded father (Willem Dafoe) accidentally kills his wife (Julia Roberts) in a tragic car accident when a nephew (Chase Ellison) runs in front of his car.
