Thin Ice

Cons begin in this highly entertaining, quirky, clever, well-written, twist-filled, dark comedy when a shady, smooth-talking, small-time, down-on-his-luck insurance salesman (Greg Kinnear), who is estranged from his fed-up wife (Lea Thompson) and is in the doghouse with his underappreciated secretary (Michelle Arthur), is robbed by a mysterious drunk (Jennifer Edwards-Hughes) at a casino and then hatches a get-rich-quick scheme after learning that an elderly Wisconsin farmer (Alan Arkin) has a valuable violin while selling him an insurance policy to the chagrin of another agent (David Harbour) only to reluctantly find himself in cahoots with a hotheaded, slick locksmith (Billy Crudup) when the client's nosy neighbor (Peter Thoemke) is killed.
