Duchess, The

Gorgeous sets, scenery, and costumes dominate this engrossing, beautifully photographed, factually based film based on the novel Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire that highlights the flagrant and prevalent double standard in 18th century England as the headstrong, well-liked daughter (Keira Knightley) of a practical British aristocrat (Charlotte Rampling) is married to the cavalier, cold-hearted, gout-afflicted Duke of Devonshire (Ralph Fiennes) and is then forced to forego the love she feels for the handsome, ambitious politician Charles Grey (Dominic Cooper) when her arrogant and audacious husband begins sleeping under their opulent roof with her best friend (Hayley Atwell) and refuses to give up his mistress.
