Inspector General, The

A wacky, slapstick, 1949 musical comedy in which a kindhearted, illiterate shill (Danny Kaye) working for a money-grubbing gypsy snake oil peddler (Walter Slezak) is mistaken for the Napoleon-appointed inspector general (Rhys Williams) by corrupt officials (Gene Lockhart, Walter Catlett, Alan Hale, et al.) and a kindly kitchen maid (Barbara Bates) when he arrives in their small town looking for a meal.
