In This Our Life

After being spoiled by her self-serving, ruthless uncle (Charles Coburn) and running off to Baltimore with the handsome surgeon husband (Dennis Morgan) of her surprisingly forgiving sister (Olivia de Havilland) in John Huston's riveting, well-acted, black-and-white 1942 film, the life of a scheming, selfish, and manipulative woman (Bette Davis) begins to spiral downward when she returns home to her clueless parents (Frank Craven and Billie Burke) in Richmond upon the suicide of her husband, learns that her former fiancé (George Brent) has fallen in love with her sister, and then blames a tragic accident on an ambitious African-American (Ernest Anderson).
