Colorado Avenue

Striking cinematography dominates this epic love story about a headstrong, independent Finnish widow (Birthe Wingren) who returns to Finland and her eccentric, sharp-tongued mother (Ylva Ekblad) in 1905 with her two young children after the death of her American husband (Andreas Wilson) in Colorado, becomes a well-respected businesswoman when she buys land from a still-smitten former lover (Nicke Lignell) and opens a mercantile store, and then goes through more turbulent times raising her beautiful daughter (Joanna Wingren) and coping with her ire and hurt feelings when she learns that her ambitious, risk-taking son (Peter Kanerva) is smuggling booze with a childhood friend (Pekka Strang).
