Sleepwalking

Slow pacing hinders this gritty, depressing, well acted film about an unlucky, dysfunctional family in which an unemployed, well-intentioned construction worker (Nick Stahl) tries to protect and care for his neglected and unhappy 12-year-old niece (AnnaSophia Robb) after her emotionally needy mother (Charlize Theron) walks out, and he makes a life-altering decision to visit his childhood home and his cantankerous, mean-spirited father (Dennis Hopper).
