Triumph of the Spirit A powerful, gut-churning, factually inspired 1989 film about Jewish Olympic Greek boxer Salamo Arouch (Willem Dafoe) who tries to save himself, his family (Robert Loggia, Sofia Saretok, Costas Mandylor, and Grazyna Kruk-Schejbal), and his pregnant girlfriend (Wendy Gazelle) by agreeing to fight in the boxing ring for a Nazi major (Hartmut Becker) when they join other Jews (Edward James Olmos, Kelly Wolf, et al.) in the Auschwitz/Birkenau concentration camp during WWII.
