Eastern Promises Sporadic graphic violence peppers this otherwise dark, well-crafted, intriguing, and intense David Cronenberg crime thriller in which a British midwife (Naomi Watts) gets herself and her family (Sinéad Cusack and Jerzy Skolimowski) embroiled with the heavily tattooed Russian Mafia (Viggo Mortensen, Armin Mueller-Stahl, and Vincent Cassel) after being led to them by a highly incriminating diary when a 14-year-old prostitute (Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse) dies during childbirth in London.
