Strange Culture

An interesting, eyebrow-raising, quirky documentary that uses interviews, testimonials, news clips, and reenactments as it tells the story of the absurd, trumped-up charges of mail and wire fraud and ongoing legal battle of associate professor of art at SUNY Buffalo Steve Kurtz (Thomas Jay Ryan), a founding member of the internationally-acclaimed art and theater group Critical Art Ensemble, who was illegally and erroneously held by the FBI on possible bio-terrorism charges when they discovered suspicious petri dishes filled with bacteria that was part of an art exhibition on genetically altered food after authorities entered his home due to the death of his wife Hope (Tilda Swinton) in her sleep on June 11, 2004.
