Hairspray When a plucky, overweight high school student (Nikki Blonsky) living with her parents (John Travolta and Christopher Walken) in Baltimore dreams of dancing on a popular television show in 1962 in this energetic, well-paced, well-cast, upbeat, 117-minute, 2007 musical that provides a political commentary on the times, she surprises her best friend (Amanda Bynes), the hosts (James Marsden and Queen Latifah), the dancers (Zac Efron, Brittany Snow, Elijah Kelley, et al.), and the snobbish station manager (Michelle Pfeiffer) with her well-rehearsed dancing talent and her willingness to confront prejudices and stereotypes.
