Disappearances

After a devastating fire damages his farm in Prohibition-era Vermont in this beautifully photographed film, a scheming farmer (Kris Kristofferson) ignores the wishes of his sister (Geneviève Bujold) and takes his teenage son (Charlie McDermott) on a whiskey run to Canada with his daredevil brother-in-law (Gary Farmer) and another bootlegger (William Sanderson) to steal twenty cases of booze under the noses of gun-slinging Canadians (Lothaire Bluteau, et al.) to earn money to get him and his family through the winter in 1932.
