Sweet Mud

When his elder brother (Pini Tavger) leaves to join the army in this compelling, poignant, and heartbreaking film, a 12-year old Jewish boy (Tomer Steinhof) living with his grandparents (Joseph Carmon and Idit Tsur) and other children (Daniel Kitsis, Ami Weill, Omer Berger, et al.) in a seemingly idyllic, but regimented and conformist Israeli Kibbutz in 1974 is left to protect his depressed, fragile, mentally unstable, widowed mother (Ronit Yudkevitz) who becomes further unhinged after her much-older lover (Henri Garcin) abruptly returns to Switzerland.
