Freedom Writers

An inspirational, thought-provoking, factually inspired film about an idealist, optimistic, greenhorn English teacher (Hilary Swank), in Long Beach, Calif., in the early 1990s who puts her husband (Patrick Dempsey) on hold when she challenges the traditional educational system and its officials (Imelda Staunton, et al.) and stereotypes while using unorthodox techniques to find a common ground in her integrated classroom filled with rival gang members (April Lee Hernandez, Jennifer Camacho, Jason Finn, Jaclyn Ngan, Deance Wyatt, Sergio Montalvo, Andre, et al.) and challenging them to care about their education despite coping with everyday poverty, violence, and hardships.
