Dreamgirls

Marvelous music and memorable songs, including And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going, I Am Changing, Cadillac Car, Dreamgirls, Fake Your Way to the Top, One Night Only, Steppin' to the Bad Side, and When I First Saw You, and gorgeous costumes highlight this well-acted, visually dazzling, entertaining, but unevenly paced musical based on the smash Broadway hit in which three Supremes-like, single-minded R&B African-American singers (Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose) in 1960s Detroit excitedly accept an ambitious manager's (Jamie Foxx) offer to go on the road as the backup group for a cocky, womanizing entertainer (Eddie Murphy), who is accompanied by his longtime manager (Danny Glover), and after the curvy lead singer is canned to the chagrin of her songwriter brother (Keith Robinson) and another singer (Sharon Leal) is hired, the group eventually crosses over to the pop music scene and gains international fame as The Dreams.
