Blood Diamond After an African fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) is separated from his wife and three children (Kagiso Kuypers, et al.) and is forced to work in the diamond fields in war-torn, chaos-ravaged Sierra Leone in 1999 when machete-wielding rebel soldiers ruthlessly attacked his village in this intense and suspenseful film filled with bullet-splattered mayhem, a former mercenary and South African solider of fortune (Leonardo DiCaprio) makes a self-serving and reckless pact with him to find his family in exchange for a highly coveted large pink diamond with the help of a skeptical American journalist (Jennifer Connelly) searching and writing an article on conflict diamonds.
