Before the Fall When an idealistic teenage boxer (Max Riemelt) sees a chance to escape his fate of working in a factory and goes against the wishes of his middle-class father (Gerald Alexander Held) to join other hand-selected cadets (Martin Goeres, Jonas Jägermeyr, Devid Striesow, et al.) at an elite Nazi military academy in 1942 in this disconcerting, heartbreaking 2004 German film, he becomes increasingly disillusioned with the ideals and political mandates of Hitler's Third Reich as he befriends the headstrong son (Tom Schilling) of the coldhearted governor.
