Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story A convoluted, sometimes witty and often boring film-within-a-film that goes behind the scenes during the shooting of an unwieldy period film about the life, particularly the birth, of 18th century British dandy Tristram Shandy (Steve Coogan) and the intricate tightrope that the director (Jeremy Northam) must walk when dealing with the egg-shell, egotistical personalities of the film's two stars (Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon) while the supporting cast (Gillian Anderson, Shirley Henderson, Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Fry, Dylan Moore, et al.) is continually vying for the spotlight.
