How the Myth Was Made

Filmmaker George Stoney revisits Aran Island off the coast of Ireland in his 1978 documentary that intersperses film clips from the famous 1931 black-and-white Robert Flaherty film Man of Aran and difficult-to-understand interviews with townsfolk, including the film's original star Maggie Durand, with the intention of not only studying the effects that the well-known film had on the residents of the island but reconnecting with his roots on the island that his Irish grandfather called home.
