Three...Extremes

In this trilogy of Asian horror films, Hong Kong's Fruit Chan directs Dumplings in which an aging Hong Kong actress (Miriam Yeung) eats aborted-fetus-filled dumplings made by an eccentric cook (Bai Ling) to regain her youth for her adulterous husband (Tong Leung); South Korea's Park Chanwook directs Cut about a disgruntled extra (Wong-hie Lim) who makes a film director (Byung-hun Lee) choose between the fingers of his pianist wife (Hye-jeong Kang) and the life of a child; and Japan's Takashi Miike directs the artistically intriguing Box that pivots around a sorrowful novelist (Kyoko Hasegawa) who is haunted by recurring nightmares in which she blames herself for the accidental death of her sister during a fit of jealousy.
