When he neglects his son (Harold Cartier) on his 13th birthday, an American artist (David Duchovny) living in Paris comes clean with his wife (Magali Amadei) about his childhood as a teenager (Anton Yelchin) growing up in Greenwich Village in the 1970s with a widowed, pill-popping mother (Téa Leoni) and his steadfast friendship with a mentally challenged janitor (Robin Williams) and a wise woman (Erykah Badu) incarcerated in a detention center.
